If any party could kick off fashion week in suitably cool, celebrity-driven and over-the-top style it was Interview magazine’s 40th anniversary bash at Good Units, Hudson Hotel. The cavernous interior spanning two levels, which had once housed a basketball court and swimming pool, looked every inch an Interview set—with past covers plastered across the walls alongside vibrant murals enlivening the central dance floor. “This amazing space was such a rare uptown find and still so reminiscent of old downtown New York—a perfect fit for us to stage the landmark celebration for Andy Warhol’s Interview,” said Ranya Johnston, the magazine’s marketing and events director. “We commissioned three different artists to work in the space for three solid days—in true Factory style. All three are such visionaries with their own distinct style, and had a clear idea of how they wanted to bring 40 years of Interview to life.”
Collage artist Sky Farell aka Vicious Skylicious, Atlanta-based graffiti artist DAX and New York artist Brian Ermanski worked together to create the gallery-like interior, while DJs Eli Escobar and A-Trak provided the soundtrack. Celebrities were out in force: Terry Richardson, Naomi Campbell, Mario Sorrenti, Chloë Sevigny, Kate Bosworth, Mary-Kate Olsen, Nate Lowman, Aaron Young, Olivier Zahm, Daphne Guinness, Tony Shafrazi, Alden Ehrenreich, Ed Droste and Leigh Lezark were among Interview’s signature blend of uptown and downtown pop-culture icons and emerging talent.
